Cascade Mountain
Banff, Alberta

After a night of pouring rain the clouds parted to let the sun shine through! Sunrise at Cascade Mountain in Banff! With the recent flooding in the area it has made some new foreground options.

The angle of the shot is very nice showing a lot of the flooded foreground and it must be nice for you to have more options with the foreground due to the weather. The light catching the top of the mountain is stunning.

I really like how you composed the shot!
However, I don't understand where is the camera. How did you get that angle? I mean, how did you put together the water so close to you and the mountain so far away? Are you standing in the water? Is this HDR?

Sorry for many questions, I just really like this :)

I carry rubber boots in my trunk at all times just for occasions like this.
The camera was about 2 feet from the water, my tripod was about half a foot in the water. I am in this field, shooting that mountain. [link] . We had flooding in this area this year so its a new bit of foreground you dont get to see too often. I dont do HDR. I edit one single raw file in Lightroom. Thanx for the interest. :)

You're welcome.

I'm really looking forward to getting up to the Highwood Pass area this time..I've never been in the Kananaskis and I've heard all kinds of wonderful things about it. I'm also spending a couple of days at Dinosaur PP on the way out. Don't know if I'm going to head into Banff or the Icefields...it's the week of the Stampede when I'm there and I imagine they'll be chock full.

Heading down into Montana after and spending the week in Glacier, then hitting Yellowstone for a few before heading back east.

Excellent!
I did Glacier in Montana last year and i wasnt impressed with it. To me it was a less pretty version of the canadian rockies. The mountains are similar but their lakes arent as pretty cuz ours are glacier fed. I guess im spoiled living here.. haha :P good luck!

I've been there before a few years back...the Canadian Rockies are stunning, no doubt about it..but I found Banff to be just overkill tourism...to be fair I'd need to spend more time there, but my last visit annoyed me so much I don't plan on heading back this trip. Jasper was nice but it's out of the way for what I'm doing this time. I have a couple of friends who spend a lot of time in Yoho and over that way and I'd love to see that area sometime.
Years ago I spent some time up in Kluane on a couple of great trips...that's somewhere I'd love to get back to as well.

I dont spend too much time in Banff townsite unless its to go to Tim's or to pick up my friend. I havent noticed it to be touristy mainly because im out when they are all still in bed and im in bed when they are all touristy.. Yah jasper is a bit out fo the way, thats why i ahvent been focusing on it, but i htink i will start to do mroe jasper this summer! :)

That's the truth, isn't it? I'm always up and out long before daylight, and it's amazing how even in the busiest park at peak season there's no one out and about, relatively speaking. Thankfully!
