Every year the Canadian falls erodes by less than a foot. It used to be more, but a bunch of water is diverted for the hydro-electric dam which is visible along the horizon in this photo. Since my first visit here, the falls have eroded by appox. 18 feet, and its noticeable!
They say in a thousands of years the falls will erode all the way back to Lake Erie.

Niagara Falls was created by the Wisconsin glaciation, about 10,000 years ago. The same forces also created the North American Great Lakes and the Niagara River. All were dug by a continental ice sheet that drove through the area.
When the ice melted, the upper Great Lakes emptied into the Niagara River, which followed the rearranged topography across the Niagara Escarpment. Title cred goes to ~benjamin-charles
