I always find myself looking at winter or snow/ice themed pieces with a hint of awe. Perhaps it's because we get so little of it here that I find it easy to appreciate the beauty of it when I see it.

I always think it's a good idea to keep background in a shot rather than fill the frame with the focus. The angel of this shot was chosen well and the backgrounds helps draw the attention to the ice itself and it is a spectacular looking ice build up.

I find the bright empty sky distracts me and perhaps this shot would have been better captured with different lighting conditions. Sometimes however there's just nothing you can do about that however.

The frozen water I feel brings something to the shot also. The ice on the water makes it look as if it's alive rather than frozen and to to me gives an illusion of movement and a rough sea. All the aspects of the shot blend together well.
